Meeting Minutes June 18, 2015

  1. Gary Zoubek gave the market update from Tom Ritzdorf.   Off setting beliefs. On the down side traders believing rain makes grain, so generally a lower trend.  On the up side, funds believe commodities are at lows and expect the wet spot factor to increase.

  2. Ron Makovicka reported on the corn test plot with 11 co’s, 22 hybrids.  Using watermark sensors 4 ft. deep. Also using John Deere sensor.  Pop – 34,000, planted April 20, Fall app of 220 lbs. N, looks good so far.

  3. Discussed county fair plans – Aug 6-9, Using Pepsi products again, set up state display & ads, message that development of Ethanol led to the best years for corn growers.  Gale Gruber moved to give away 3-$50 Ethanol gift card from Pump & Pantry, Ron Makovicka 2nd, motion passed.  Give 1 away each night.

  4. Gary said the Southeast Research & Extension Mobile Lab will be at fair on Friday.  Has a GMO display.

  5. Celebrate Extension held at the big tent, Friday night recognize Gary Zoubek’s upcoming retirement.  Dave Dickerson moved to fund 15 ice cream containers up to $700.  Boyd Stuhr 2nd, motion passed. 

  6. Will have signup sheet to work booth at next meeting.

  7. Gary promoted benefits of On Farm Research.

  8. Discussed having plot tour on Aug 20.  Tentative schedule – 430-6 tour plots, 6-7 eat, 7-8 present project SENSE (Nitrogen Mgt Pgm) NRD would be involved

  9. State NeCGA Golf Tourney will be July 29 at Meadowlark Golf in Kearney, discussed possible local team, but no volunteers, will discuss at next meeting

  10. Rick Gruber’s state and local report:

  1. McCool Ethanol races attended by Rick and Dennis Scamehorn on May 30 went well

  2. Morgan Wrich is the new NeCGA promotion officer

  3. A leadership conference in Aurora held June 29,30 discussed forming Nebraska Corn, merging activities of the Corn Board & Growers Assn for better communication and office efficiencies.

  4. Rick will go to Corn Congress in Wash DC July 14,15

  5. Discussion to move office out of state office bldg.

  6. Current checkoff is $.005/bu, may raise in future

  1. HHD is Sep 15-17 York will probably work Wed

  2. Dave looking into FFA needs, Our Scholarship winner for 2015 is Grant Suddarth2015, for 2014 was Andrew Bader.  May have a tour of Innovation Campus Oct 7.  Discussed ElNino effect on weather.

  3. Ethanol Night at the Races in Greenwood, June 28.  Call Morgan Wrich if want to go

  4. We are looking at new YCCGA polos and/or hats

  5. Discussed need for a higher compression engine to utilize E85 fuel more efficiently
