Tom Ritzdorf gave market report summary. Overall sales were down, most growers looking
for higher prices or the need to sell later.
The next part of meeting was devoted to NE State
Sen. Mark Kolterman. He wanted to review
the past, present and future of state government. Mark has been a long time insurance agent
in Seward along with serving on the
school, hospital, and church boards. His
committee assignments in the legislature include HHS (Health & Human
Services), Agriculture, General Affairs, Retirement (he is running for
chairman), and Building Committee.
The legislature reviews 600+ bill/yr. He plans to sponsor 5 new bills and wants to
develop a good relationship with the Corn Growers Assn. He talked about
property taxes and the need to lower them, but challenges include Education
committee reluctant to change formula and how to recoup lost revenue. Overall a good discussion with the Senator.
President Rick Gruber led the next discussion on
